There is no doubt that furniture made from solid timbers using traditional joints is the longest lasting best quality option. However other materials such as MDF can be successfully used to create a different look or where budget is an issue. As well as wood there are many materials that can be incorporated into a commission such as glass, metals including brass, chrome, silver and pewter, fabrics and virtually anything else.

Another option is to use veneers and this also opens up the option of marquetry designs.
